BIO

Born St. Catharines, Ontario. August 6, 1960
Studies at Carleton University, Ottawa. 1982
B.A. Hon. Brock University. 1988
B.ed. University of Western Ontario. 1990

Arnold’s work encompasses a spectrum of methods ranging from drawing, sculpture and installation, and most recently has expanded to include sound and animated language/poetry appropriations. He teaches studio courses at the Marilyn I. Walker School of Fine & Performing Arts at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario and has been the recipient of numerous awards and grants. His work is in private and public collections across North America and he is represented by Thielsen Galleries of London, ON.

STATEMENT

My work is an examination of the senses using archetypal forms fused with organic substances/processes, and a consideration of the subjectivity of individual and collective memory. Through drawing, relief sculpture, installation and video my work reflects on the nature of perception and consciousness, an ontological inquiry of sorts.

Jorge Luis Borges once posited that writing was nothing more than a guided dream. As the most fascinating part of life for me has been the intangibles that pleasantly (and sometimes not so pleasantly) haunt me, my art has evolved into a continuum of questions...parallel explorations of the self, of senescent concerns, memory and aesthetics.
