oN BLACK...etc.
Here are some examples of my recent activities as of May 2010. My activities have been focussed around two different approaches to drawing, and a body of found object-based mixed-media pieces. Enjoy!
DRAWINGS These new drawings are somewhat of a continuance of my work to date, but quite a visual departure. I have been for sometime experiementing with toned papers and recently was inspired by a colleague to work on black surfaces. The works on paper are Somerset, BFK and Stonehenge black sheets, and the larger works are on wood panels that have been preppred with a deep woody black ground prior to drawing. For those of you familiar with my work you will see a continuation of the visual/symbolic language I have been using for many years.
MIXED-MEDIA WORK These new works are an extenstion of my relief sculptures, the new works however employ found objects mounted on toned papers. A continued focus on my love of natural and man-made found objects and periodic use of poetic text, they feature a very minimal approach. As these works are a continuance of the relief sculptures their influences are similar ranging from ideas and inspiration gleaned from the works of Joseph Cornel, Kazimir Malevich to West Lorne sculptor extraordinaire Ed Zelenak.
